If your phone has an app which has the function of requiring a password for opening other apps, you may override it.
When a smartphone restarts, apps take a time to load. So in that small time frame when a phone starts, if you manage to go to settings, then to apps, and then to the 'app locking' app, and then disable it, or by force stopping it, or by uninstalling it, you get a way to open the locked apps without password.
This means that 'app locking' apps aren't reliable, and the only way to secure your phone is to screen lock it. However, that can be also overriden. The procedure is very complicated though.
