How To Set Up Apple Music On Amazon Echo

Apple and Amazon are finally playing nice with each other.

Everyone was shocked a few weeks ago when Amazon announced that Apple Music would be coming to Amazon Echo speakers on December 17th. In the announcement in a blog post on Amazon’s site, the company said:
“Music has always been one of Alexa’s most popular features and today we’re excited to announce that Apple Music will be available on Echo devices beginning the week of December 17.
“Customers will be able to ask Alexa to play their favorite songs, artists, and albums—or any of the playlists made by Apple Music’s editors from around the world, covering many activities and moods. Customers will also be able to ask Alexa to stream expert-made radio stations centered on popular genres like Hip-Hop, decades like the 80s, and even music from around the world, like K-Pop. Just ask Alexa to play Beats 1 to hear Apple Music’s global livestream including in-depth artist interviews— all completely ad-free.”
This announcement was shocking because Apple and Amazon have long had a contentious relationship. For years Amazon kept its Prime Video service off of Apple’s Apple TV–with their app only finally being released for it last year. Amazon also refused to sell the Apple TV on its website because it competed with their own Fire TV hardware. The two also battled each other on the ebook front, as well as with tablets.
But lately, Amazon and Apple have been moving closer together. Amazon is now an Apple Authorized reseller–and, as of their recent announcement, now allows Apple Music to be streamed on their popular Echo devices.
So, once December 17th rolls around, how do you set up Apple Music on your Echo? It’s easy.

Setting Up Apple Music On The Amazon Echo

  1. Open the Alexa app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap the Settings icon in the top left corner of the Alexa app (the icon with 3 lines).
  3. Tap Settings > Music.
  4. Tap Apple Music and then log in with your Apple Music credentials (usually this is your Apple ID and password).
And that’s it! Unless you want to set Apple Music as the default music streaming service on your Echo.

Making Apple Music The Default Music Service On The Amazon Echo

  1. First, set up Apple Music on the Echo following the steps above.
  2. Now, open the Alexa app on your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Tap the Settings icon in the top left corner of the Alexa app (the icon with 3 lines).
  4. Tap Settings > Music.
  5. Tap “Choose default music services”.
  6. Select Apple Music for both the “Default music library” and the “Default station service”.
